How it works

Measure the rectangular floor area, then apply a waste allowance suitable for the product and layout. Use the coverage printed on the exact package you will buy. Divide the required area by the coverage per pack and round up. Purchased coverage above the room area includes both your waste allowance and the extra caused by pack rounding. It is not a promise of reusable leftover boards. Direction changes, damaged pieces and complex cuts can increase the amount needed.

Formula

Required area = length × width × (1 + waste/100). Packs = round up (required area ÷ coverage per pack). Material cost = packs × price per pack.

Example

A 4 × 3 m room has 12 m². With a 10% allowance it needs 13.2 m² of planned coverage. At 2.2 m² per pack, buy six packs. At 35 per pack, the material estimate is 210. Underlay, transitions, skirting, labor and taxes are separate. Check manufacturer installation instructions before deciding your final allowance.

Frequently asked questions

Are my measurements uploaded?

No. Your room measurements, product settings, units and currency are stored in this browser. Clear this site’s data to remove them.

Does changing units change the room?

No. Dimensions stay in metres internally. Metric and imperial views convert lengths, areas, litres and US gallons without changing the stored room.

Are the coverage and waste defaults guaranteed?

No. Defaults are examples. Use your product label and adjust for the surface, layout, cuts and installation instructions.
